Why wired foundation?

We touched on this in class, but why do you suggest wired foundation? Is it for stability?

Thanks

Equipment

I did decide to not buy the equipment after reflection and reading up here. I just don't think it was in good shape and I am too inexperienced to deal with other people's problems yet. Thank you for all the help given to me.

boxes

I am using only mediums because I do not think I can lift a full super. So I am getting 10 medium supers, since three will be for the bees (right?) and two to use for supers.... As for the frames sizes, I didn't know there was a difference. Thanks for that. I want to use comb so that the bees have l...

Checked it out

I went and checked it out today. The seller said the equipment was in pretty good shape, but apparently his bees swarmed and he just packed it all away as it sat. Maybe a more experienced beekeeper could put a good price on this that he would accept, but for $150 total, I was not interested. The fra...

Awesome! Thanks!

Hey, thank you. I called this guy and I am meeting him to look at the equipment. He has two deep supers, not my first choice, but I guess I will have to just get a little more upperbody strength. There are 33 hive frames in all. Anyway, my question is this, buying used equipment, what should I look ...

Thanks

Thanks for the information. I will be at the last session. Luckily for me, two people I went to high school with are in the GCBA. It was pretty surprising, but I am glad that everyone is being so helpful. Yes, I will be asking lots of questions next time!!!

Thanks for the lively debate

This is going to be my first year keeping bees after reading about them. I was wondering about alternate hives and I am glad I read this. Thanks for the information. I am still going with Langstroth hives because I haven't heard enough to convince me otherwise.

One other question

Didn't the Triad Bee Supply representative say they would match the no shipping costs offer? My head was swimming with too much information. I am going to buy my supers un-assembled. I thought for the work involved, I would be able to deal with the assembly.

Thanks for your help

Newbee Caught in the Headlights

I am taking the beekeeping course this year. I have ordered two packages of bees. I feel overwhelmed with the choices to buy hives. :?: I decided on medium supers after lifting them in class, but I have no idea on who to order from, when I should order, how many super boxes I will need the first yea...
