Where is everybody?

Post by Pharmacyman »

I'm not seeing any new posts lately. I know we lost Wally and Rob, RIP two very generous guys with their time and knowledge, but I bet this medium would help a lot of new people who may have questions. How can we get the word out?

This was the question Rob and I always debated, and never could come up with a good answer. Personally, I found this forum to be EXTREMELY useful when I started out, and still used it to ask and answer questions 8 years later.

#1 It's not flashy
#2 It's run and moderated by volunteers
#3 It's not mobile-friendly
#4 It's always been very difficult to post photos/videos

I think there's now a much greater prevalence of Facebook groups, other online forums, YouTubers, etc. While some are very good, most are not. And none have more "local" knowledge than this forum (with actual real people). Personally, I am not retired and I am not a tech guy, so I was fine with the status quo. But participation has definitely dwindled over the years, and I don't know the answer to reviving it.

Looks like royl is the only administrator left, but not sure that anyone is actively moderating.

Yes I am the one moderating. The board is considering taking the site offline in favor of Facebook forums.

If taken offline, can you make sure to somehow preserve the content from the forum? I still search old conversations, look at past event dates/timing, etc.

Yes, I'll pass this along to the board.
