Re: Bees in a tree

He gave me the ok to do it this Saturday but I am a little concerned about the temps. 62 is the high. Maybe I should wait till the "heat" of teh day to take the frame of eggs and bees out before heading over to the trapout? Or would you suggest a slightly warmer day? Thanks for your advice btw!

Re: Is it time?

I did a split yesterday.......not saying that was the best choice but they were ready and I think the weather is good enough. Plus, I have 5 out of 7 hives with drones flying.

Bees in a tree

I have a co-worker who has bees in a cedar tree that I would like to try and trap out. My question is.....when could I start the trap out process? Should I wait until April, May, etc.....?

Re: Survivors?

Sorry to hear that Ski.....this is a great pic of what it looks like when a hive starves. Was it the diminished size that kept them from moving to a new area for food?

Re: Survivors?

Agreed.....but I would think that a blocked entrance would generate excess condensation. I though that would be bad with the cold temps. Hmmm....

Re: Hive Placement in Small Back Yard

I agree....most of my mowing doesnt bother them as long as I dont "blow" anything towards the hive......the worse is when the exhaust blows towards them! They absolutely HATE the weedeater.

Re: Survivors?

Overall it sounds like most fared pretty well!!! I did see that a couple of "strong" hives didnt make it.....any clue as to what the culprit may have been?

Survivors?

Now that the extreme cold spell has let up for a day, how did everyone's hives fare? All of ours made it and they are eating like crazy today. The most we saw was several dead bees at the entrance , most were drones, and couldn't be happier. Interested to hear how everyone else fared.

Re: Jan & Feb Feeding

We have been feeding sugar water and pollen substitute all winter long. Its very rare to not see them eating when its clear and sunny.....almost regardless of the temps. I have been amazed at how much they have eaten all winter long.
