>>>>Wally, these kids are impressive with the hives. Every single one of them does what they need to do and if something is too heavy or difficult for them they bond together like something I've never seen<<<<

Of course, They're my angels. :D

The sugar shake is, in my opinion, the easiest and best way. It is also the way Don Hopkins, your state inspector, does it.

Sounds like you did everything right. I would give them a week after this cold spell and look in on them again. The dead brood was probably frozen when the cluster became too small to cover them properly. The bees will clean them out and all should be fine. As for the bad pattern and lack of eggs, a...

Equipment

I now have deeps, mediums and wired wax for both. Individual frames for each, also.
I have outer lids, inner lids, screen and solid bottom boards.
Also have fgmo, thymol, and lemongrass oil.

Trapping bees from a house

I will be setting a trap for a colony in a house in Greensboro Friday. Any one interested in watching or helping is invited. I expect it to take a few weeks to complete the trapout, so there may be a few opportunities for some nice photos.
If interested, call me at 336-302-2708.

I like the fgmo and thymol fogging. Easier, quicker, and less disturbing to the bees.

I was in Marion yesterday and the populars were totally black. They looked to be dead. It will take quite a resurrection for them to produce this year. I don't think we were near as cold as they were. I will wait another week before crowing too loudly, but I think we will see a nearly complete comeb...

It has definately stopped the flow for the last week. We will have to see how long it takes for the blooms to rejuvenate. Here is a link to the honey plant bloom times in NC. http://www.ncbeekeepers.org/plants.htm Other than that, I can't help with the flow times other than just check for open honey...

Very easily. It just takes more feed and maybe a pollen patty or two.

The same as humans, until they find it or perish.

A quarter mile or less is preferred, but they will go to 2 or 3 miles if needed.

When you cut the caps off the frame of honey and extract what is left in the frame, you get the honey from the extracter and he keeps the wax and honey from the cut off cappings.
