The letter we get only says passed or failed.
Do you have the actual grades?

HAPPY EASTER to you, too, kid. And HAPPY EASTER to everyone else, also, and if that offends anyone, then they are the type I don't mind offending. Sorry, I'm just not politically correct enough to apologize for my religion.

Eating.

It wasn't freezing at the hive entrance.

I would remove all feeders and reduce the entrances to less than one inch. I would leave them that way until Monday, at least.

For us, yes....For the bees, no...It will be back above 43 within a few hours. They will keep the box above 60 during that time. If 28 were the high for 3 or 4 days, then there would be a problem.

It's not going to get cold, so it won't matter.
Cold to bees starts at about 43 degrees. The few hours it is supposed to drop below that will not penetrate the hives. They will be fine through this "cool" spell.

Kid, you would not believe these kids. They are 12 to 17 and you would think they have been around bees for 30 years. I think I get more enjoyment from our relationship than they do.
They're just great kids.

I don't think you will see robbing in Apr., May, or June. Like Kurt said, it will only happen when there is a dearth and they can't find food elsewhere.

Swarms

I caught another swarm today, along with finding that one of my winter deadouts is no longer dead. Some time in the last week a swarm has taken up residence and is working right along.

Two hives of free bees....I LIKE IT!!!

Old man's prediction

After a week or two of warm weather, then turning wet and cold for the next 3 or 4 days, I would think queen cells are emerging when the old queen cannot fly. Look for a rush of swarm calls between Sunday and Wednesday.

Nothing to base it on, just a wild prediction.

I gave her Scott Derrick's name and number. I guess she called him. She never called back here.

I had one call from a ""very intelligent"" lady asking if I would charge to drive to Charlotte and retrieve a swarm.

A fellow beek here in town had a swarm from his one hive Thursday. I hived it for him.

No other calls so far.

I would leave things as they are. Newbee jitters withstanding, the bees just need time to work now.

>>>How long (average) does it take before I will see some comb being drawn in my new super?<<<

Two weeks.

By then you will have the other answers.

Take notice of the title. It says MAIN flow.
The info above answers that well, BUT there is are also a few MINOR flows that should be taken advantage of during the year. One of which is on now.

Sorry I was not here to do my daily floor sweeping. Maybe the aproval method will work. It has to help. Don't worry about the front feeders. They work fine on equal hives, and when there is a flow on. Most robbing happens during a dearth, and between a strong and a very weak one. Kurt layed out the ...

Jacobs, welcome and thanks for coming on board.

Just remember, old timers repeat constantly. Most new info comes from new sources. All have good input, if we can just get them to post.
