Re: Forum Board & Website Updates

OK, I found it.

Rob, go to the front page and refresh the page. Your old front page is saved in your computer, not drawn from the internet. Refresh the page and it will pick up from the internet.

To all, I have contacted the IT office and hope to hear from them shortly.

Crisis

I was driving home late last night in the middle of a driving rain storm. I noticed a car with its flashers on creeping down the road ahead of me. I realized it was my neighbor, a OB/GYN nurse who assisted in home deliveries. I pulled over in front of her to see why she was going so slow. "My t...

Re: Robbing

About the only solution is to move them. If you have no other place to take them, bring them to my house. After a few days, you can return them home with a robber screen on and they should be OK if they have a queen now. If queenless, you may want to combine them with another hive. If interested, my...

Re: Swarm-8/2/17

I received a call yesterday evening about a swarm in Randleman. I was busy at the time and couldn't go. The caller said he would check it out. An hour later he reported they had built a large paper nest. I told him he could keep that ""swarm". :P

Re: Failed Queen?

Unless Rob's inspection says different, I am going out on a limb and say your queen was superceded, as about half of package bees are. If that is the case, I would just leave them alone for about 2 weeks and check again.

Awaiting Rob's inspection results.

Re: Is this normal?

I hope you pushed all the frames tightly together and centered before closing it up. The way the frames are in the middle pic, they will draw wild comb between the frames.

Re: Is this normal?

As Jacobs said, You need to have a mentor come out and help you clean the frames and rearrange them so the bees draw straight comb. It is free, and should be used before the situation gets any worse.

Re: Swarm-3/31/17

That's only equal to 2 1/2 te frame mediums. That's still a lot of bees for a swarm from there. Of course, I don't know how many of them were left overs from the mixed up swarm from the stump.

Anyway, looks like a good start to a strong hive.

Re: Swarm-3/31/17

That looks like a lot of bees for a nuc swarm. Just how high was that nuc?

Re: Bees and Mosquito treatment

I had 30 plus hives in Ms. during the early 1980's. They sprayed every month down there. When they came by, it would fog over my whole yard. It never hurt the bees. They sprayed at night and the guy said it was only effective for 4 hours. I would ask your guys to do it at dusk or after dark. PS. Welc...

Re: First swarm of the year-3/8/17

I don't think it will affect it at all other than on mating flight days. If it's too cold when the replacement queen needs to fly, she won't get mated and the hive will die.

First swarm of the year-3/8/17

Keith and I went over to Staley and caught a swarm this afternoon. 6 foot pine tree, about a 3 lb. swarm. Just bent the tree over and shook them in the hive.
Wish they were all that easy.

Re: February Swarms?

I have an appointment to look at a hive in Pleasant Garden tomorrow. The owner says he thinks he has queen cells. Yes, things are starting to happen. Swarms are possible in Feb., and for sure the first half of march if this weather continues. Everyone should be checking their hives for cells as soon...
