Re: Freshly extracted raw honey needed

The age of honey doesn't effect the efficiency of it. If it was collected from the plants you are allergic to, it is said to help. If collected from other plants, it may not help at all. It's the regular doses of small amounts of pollen from the honey that causes your body to build resistance.

Re: newbie question :)

When you check them in a week, notice how many frames are covered with bees when you first lift the lid. If one has a lot fewer bees between the frames, exchange places with it and the one with most bees in it. The foragers will return to the weaker hive, thus equalizing them both. What has happened...

Re: Swarm? Changed thier mind?

Yes, they will go again today or tomorrow. I would go into it today and make a split.
From the size of it, I would also add a box to the new hive. They probably left it because it was too small.
Want to talk about different splits, my number is 336-302-2708.

Re: Where to get Nucs

Most important, make the next meeting on April 14. That's where you will learn all you need to know and then some. Meanwhile, look on the front page of this site. Click on "beez needs" and call him. If he's out, click on "Triad bee supply" and call him. If he's out, click on this...

The forecast for Saturday is sunny and 71. IF it holds true, it would be a good time.

Re: Bees in a tree

I would go over and make the setup, but not mount the cone. When it was he warmest time of the day, I would mount the cone and then go home and pull the eggs. That way there will be a large number of bees looking for a place to go when you set the frame of eggs in.

Re: Cross Wiring on Deep Frame Foundation

During a honey flow when it gets drawn quickly, not very important. When there is no wax being drawn, very important. I crosswire and embed all mine, as some may set for months before being used.

Re: Early March Inspections

Have four "Wayne's bees" hives at Beez Needz. Did a grafting class there today. Hives full of bees and brood, nectar and pollen coming in as if it were May. All hives very strong. Drone brood everywhere. Spring is here at Keith's place.

Re: Bees in a tree

NOW!

There are drones in the area, which is the only criteria needed. There are fewer bees now and the SHB are not so bad.
The only change I would make is, put the egg frame AND BEES ON IT into the bait hive to keep the brood warm until the trap starts working.

Send a PM to forum member Zulu. He sells the BT for cabbage loopers. It is the one you want. It kills wax moths.

Re: U.S. Bee Buffer Project

I wanted to, but this stopped me. ""A willingness to allow beekeepers and researchers on-site""

The planting site is too remote and too often unattended, with too many valuables in sight to let many unknown people onto it.
