Re: Supering for the honey flow
I think the dearth is going to be early this year, Tulip poplars (the major flow) in my area have very few blooms left on them. My bees are showing interest in the white clover, I seen about a dozen bees working it today! The bees usually won't go to the white clover until there's not much left to w...

Colors Bees See
Colors Bees See What colors creatures see has long interested scientists, and aside from us, more is known about what colors bees see than any other living thing. Like us, bees are trichromatic (have three photoreceptors within the eye). Whereas we base our color combinations on red, blue, and green...

Tulip Poplars blooming!
The Tulip Poplars are starting to bloom! I was using my binoculars looking at what I thought could be a swarm, it was just a squirrel's nest, but I noticed color in the tree and on closer inspection I discovered Tulip Poplar blossoms beginning to bloom! The bee calendar has it blooming about the 25t...

Re: Laying Worker
Wally is right, it's alot of work! It is a challenge to save a laying worker hive, the shake out is simple and fast. You have to decide....if you attempt to save the hive, a shake out may still be in your furture! Question: Did you leave the nurse bees on the frame you transferred? You might want to...

Re: Has this been an "average" honey flow?
For me this year is an exception. I will definitely be extracting honey this year! I have some hives with a deep + 5 mediums on them..bees working in the 5th medium. Some hives with deep + 4 mediums and I plan to give a couple of them another box this week! Like Jacobs, I've pulled some capped honey...

Re: Moving Hives
Doug,
It's best to orient the hives/frames parrallel to the road to prevent the frames swinging/rocking during the trip.
Which can crush bees and could possibly harm your queen.
(I wish you good luck with your move and hope the Memphis area is rich with nectar sources)

Re: Got me one yesterday, too.
Nice picture, are they from one of your hives?
I don't know if I should say "good for you" or "I'm sorry your bees are swarming"
I guess both, I'm glad you caught them and I'm sorry they don't want to stay in the box!

I've been busy chasing bees this week! I had a swarm Thurs, Sat, and today. The swarm Sat and today came from hive #1 (I split hive #1 plus made a nuc from it 3 weeks ago!)
