Re: HORNETS OR YELLOW JACKETS KILLED AND ROBBED MY BEES
I agree with Baswell and that is why I keep me eye on the various posts made here. Beekeeping is about what works and what doesn't and having trusted advisers such as the ones who regularly post here makes a big difference in how successful you can be as a beekeeper.

Re: Small Hive Beetles
That has been my experience too. I put my hives in the sunniest place in the yard. They get the first light of the day and don't go into the shade till about 5:00 PM. I tried traps a few years ago but they did not seem to work very well. I still get a few and the bees are managing them just fine now...

Re: Harvesting
Got my refractometer today. Spun out a box of uncapped frames after harvesting the capped ones. Did keep the two batches separated and plan to feed the higher water content honey to a couple of new hives that I am starting. Getting the bees and comb from a friend that does extractions. We are still ...

Harvesting
Should a frame of honey be completely capped before is is extracted? I harvested a few frames last week that had maybe 5% open cells of honey on the frame. Spun out about 30 frames and only 3 were not completely capped. I put all the other frames that had more than 5% open cells back on the hive for...

Re: Dearth?
Hate to brag but I have already harvested four supers from one hive that I moved from Greensboro last winter, all frames were capped corner to corner. Guess it helps that I live in Shelby Forest in western Tennessee that has thousands of tulip populars and soybeans and cotton still coming. Do worry ...

Moving Bees
I need to move my bees next week. If they are moved in cold temps do they still need to be smoked when loading them?

Moving Hives
I am moving to the Memphis area and am in need of some advice. I will be moving 3 hives which already have 3 supers each on them. Bees are expanding like crazy. Can bees be moved anytime of the year? Going 650 miles with them. Plan on loading them on my trailer at dusk and move them at night. Not su...

Re: Dead Queen
Truth be told it was my fault I convinced Bill to try a different method of installing the queen cage using bottom loading-on-a-stick method that I had seen in the Bee Culture magazine. Set the cage with the screen facing up. Never will do that again.

Re: When are the bees coming?
Have carried many packages inside the vehicles and even a full hive from Wally last year. Some may be flying around the back window but will not bother you. It is a very fun adventure. No need to fret.

In my fourth spring of Beekeeping and it looks like I got 4 of my 5 hives to overwinter successfully for the first time this year. I have learned a lot from these series of posts. I would defer to Kurt as I trust his experience. Might try a top bar to form my own opinion. Passion can be good but mis...
