How many hives on two acres

Wondering if there is research or opinion on the maximum number of hives a person should keep on 2 acres? I currently have 5 hives which are all doing well but thinking of adding more in the Spring. Across the street from me is 200 acres of woods which contains a variety of different vegetation. My ...

Robbing

It appeared my hives were being robbed from neighboring bees. I reduced the entrance to the smallest opening. My hives were very strong or so I thought. My question is should my bees be able to fend off robbing now that I lowered the entrance? The weather is nice so the bees are very active. It is h...

Moving hives

I need advice on how to best move my hives from one side of my yard to the other. New neighbors are not comfortable with my hives. Is there a safe way to move hives this time of year?

Queen Excluders

Last year while harvesting honey I noticed the middle frames contained larvae. So this year I put queen excluders on, now there are no bees in my honey super on a hive that is strong and should have bee all over the honey box. Seems I cant win. I decided to take the excluder off better to have a lit...

Bad queen options

Are there options to replace a bad laying queen or will the hive take care of itself and make a new queen? The egg pattern is very sporadic at best. I do see larva so she is laying a few but no pattern at all. Not sure what to do next

Re: Lost two hives

Thanks for the information Rob. I am a very competitive person, so I really hate to fail and losing two hives feels like failure. I have two more packages on order with Keith and will try again in the Spring.

Lost two hives

Looking for advice. I had two very strong hives going into the winter, treated for mites, being a 1st year bee keeper I thought everything was good. Now both hives are dead, no idea why, very frustrated and I am not sure what to do next. I have ten frame hives with supers and they are packed with ho...

Honey super is full. What next

My honey super is full but mostly from sugar water. Not sure what to do next. The frames are full of comb and honey but not all capped. Should I wait and let the bees cap all the honey before putting new honey frames on?
