need to sell a lot of honey before move
I'm moving to Hong Kong before the end of the month, and I have 48 quarts of honey left from the 2012 harvest. Does anyone local buy in bulk? I'll sell for $8 / quart, but need to sell it all at once. Please email dhamilton4@elon.edu if you are interested. Otherwise, a tip about a local business who...

Equipment for sale
I live in Gibsonville. Make me an offer on the items below. Would prefer to sell everything together instead of piecemeal. My email address is dhamilton4@elon.edu Thanks. 4 drawn supers (think they are all mediums, wrapped with paramoth) approx 10 painted 10 frame super bodies, most without frames T...

Re: Going rate for hives and drawn supers
Thanks for the replies. My neighbors bailed, so I need to sell 6 hives. I'll sell for $100 each, and it includes a super on each. I have been feeding through August, but they will need more unless there is an exceptional fall flow. I can help load at my house, but you are responsible for transport. ...

Going rate for hives and drawn supers
I am moving out of NC and need to unload all of my hives. My neighbors are interested in buying them, however. What is a fair price for a healthy hive (10 frame "normal" hive) and for each additional fully-drawn 10 frame medium or shallow super? I'll list anything on this board that they d...

Re: Tulip Poplars blooming!
There's a large tulip poplar I drive by in McLeansville (eastern Guilford county) every day, and, unless my eyes are getting really bad, I don't think it's bloomed yet. The bees are filling the supers up with other things, though.

Just to follow up on this, I sent the package last week via the USPS with the requisite customs forms correctly filled out, and there was no problem.

Re: Creamed Honey
the logic appears to be that 95 deg F is high enough to melt any existing crystals, and that adding the seed will bring the temp down cool enough to prevent melting. i'll give it a go and report results.

Re: Creamed Honey
Mike, I'm thinking about making one or two gallons of creamed honey this year. It looks like I just need to get the honey to 95-100 degrees, then stir in the seed (being careful not to introduce too much air in the process), and then let sit for a few days until it's ready to be jarred. However, if ...

Looks like the small chance of rain tonight has dissipated. Is there any forage available during this kind of weather?

Re: Supering up
Good answer! Since my wording wasn't clear, each of the two hives has a top super in the processing of being capped, and a nearly fully-drawn super underneath already. So I'm planning to add a third above the brood in a little while. I've seen a few bees at a time working a privet bush near my house...

Supering up
Just did a quick inspection - both of my package bee hives are capping the top super of honey and have drawn the other super out to about 80%. Is it pointless to put another (undrawn) super on at this point since the tulip poplars have stopped blooming? As an aside, I'm pleasantly surprised by the p...

Has this been an "average" honey flow?
I got my first two hives in 2009. The last two years have been pretty demoralizing for a novice. However, it looks like I may get enough honey to try extracting this year. This year, there's been some rain and next week may be rained out but it seems like an "average" year overall. What is...

According to the calendar, it's time. Has anyone seen it in bloom yet?
No foraging activity on my blackberry bushes today. Hopefully that's a good sign that they've moved on.

Re: How many 8 frame medium hive boxes should I have and mor
The article on checkerboarding in this month's Bee Culture advocated adding another super as soon as the bees have started on the latest one, instead of waiting until it's getting full. This, in theory, provides more "motivation" since they can't coast to completion of what they view as th...

"Mites are killed both on the bees and under the cap with 95% efficacy "
At that rate, any guesses on how long until the mites that survive become resistant? 3 years?
