Re: Bees, equipment, and sugar for sale!

A friend of mine came into a large quantity of sugar 2 years ago and I was able to get it for the club, but I continue to check with him and it was a one-time deal I think. No more available. :(

Re: Bees, equipment, and sugar for sale!

Pics of the hive and equipment are on Craigslist. I'm lowering the price of the hive as is (3 supers and a top feeder) to $150, and can't sell any of the equipment until I make sure the hive is sold and gone. Otherwise I am going to have to work these bees the next few warm days we have--and frankly...

Re: Craigslist - bee hive, 2 smokers, hive tool

Michelle, if you are still needing some equipment I listed all of mine last night. Check out the 'for sale' section. I've never had moths, mice, or any disease at all and I've never treated my bees with anything except powdered sugar for a few varroa last season. They are extremely healthy and my eq...

Bees, equipment, and sugar for sale!

This was my third year keeping bees and it seemed I finally got it right--I came out of this winter with a large, healthy, heavy hive. However my 13 year old dog was attacked and killed by them in my fenced back yard this past Saturday, and that incident has made me reevaluate my decision to have th...

Re: LOADS of bees

Thank you for the offer, Zulu. I've thought about it though and I think I'm ready to let them go. There are so many children that play right outside my fence, I garden right around their hive, hang out my laundry there, have even weed-eated right around them for years. Now I just feel freaked out, a...

Re: LOADS of bees

Well...this will be in complete contrast to my post earlier today. I was over in Greensboro this afternoon for just a few hours and got a text that the police and a beekeeper were at my house. I dashed home as fast as I could, only to find that the 'beekeeper' was actually a veterinarian the police ...

LOADS of bees

I went completely into my hive today and WOW, I have LOADS of bees and they have plenty of honey. I was able to witness larvae, a few newborns working their way out of the cells, capped honey, capped brood, and pollen. :D There isn't much free space left however, probably 10%. Eek. I put a honey sup...

mold on inner cover

I opened my hive up yesterday to add some sugar syrup to my top feeder and noticed a stale smell immediately. Then I saw it--a little furry mold on the inner cover. I've propped the outer cover up a bit since the next few days will be warm and hopefully that will help freshen things up a bit. Any ot...

successful use of powdered sugar

I had varroa in my hive last year and decided to try the powdered sugar, just to see if it would work. I read up on it and did it exactly as instructed and was able to restore the hive to their healthy state. I put the powdered sugar in an old shaker jar, opened up the hive, and sprinkled it heavily...

Risk of swarming?

I opened up my hive yesterday to check on them, as it has been a month or more but I've monitored them from the front throughout that time and they looked healthy and happy. Man-what a HUGE and healthy hive I have! Yay! Of course, only being a second year beekeeper, now I'm worried that they are too...

Yes, the items are still available. I'll be out for a few hours this morning but will check my messages after lunch. I'm in High Point. I can either meet you somewhere, or bring them to next month's cookout--whichever is easier.

welcome to put bees on my property

I have a vacation house outside of Stuart, VA, about 20 minutes from the Parkway. My property backs up to Fairystone State Park. The park and my property have lots of Sourwood trees. If anyone would like to put some hives up there this season, just let me know!

Kurt, I'd be glad to help you if you're still needing help. I've only been at it a year, got my first hive from you last Spring, so I'm certainly not very experienced, but I can certainly take instruction. My hive is dead so I have some free time.

Thanks, Kurt. Oh well, I knew that was the risk with just having one hive, but I'm not discouraged. I learned so much the first year...mostly what not to do but that's still great knowledge. :)

hive doesn't look so good-and I only have one! :(

 Last year was my first year, so bear with me with all of the questions. I opened my hive for the first time today, to clean it up and see what was going on. I thought for sure my girls had survived the winter, because I've seen some flying in and out the past few weeks and in the last week a j...
