Apparently, the fly lays eggs in the honeybee and eats them from the inside out. I wonder if it attacks all species of honeybee?

Any idea what type of hive this guy has? It looks like an upside down skep in a box with frames. Interesting photos. Be warned it is in French.

Wally is right about the inspection. However, depending upon the state, the incoming state may inspect upon arrival especially if it is just 3 hives. I have not had much luck lately contacting Don.

I checked mine this weekend also. It looks like hive number two bit the dust. They seemed ok during the warm part of December. I guess the last few weeks did them in. The odd thing is I didn't see the queen and there where only a few hundred dead bees. I had sugar on top of the hive. I am attaching ...

I have had to learn the lesson the hard way as well. Smoke, veil, and gloves most of the time now. Especially since my hands tend to swell pretty big if I am stung there.

Kurt - What do you use for record keeping on your hives other than the brick method?

Brushy is having a package pickup on Saturday. Shane has said they always get extra queens in case someone has an issue. So they should have some extras this Saturday.
