Re: Small Hive Beetles
I am full of info tonight. I have a hive that always had a lot of bettles. I recently discovered there was a crack in the top cover. This top has a copper cover and has a peak like the roof of a house. This peak allows a large cavity these little critters can hide from the bees. I caulked the crack,...

Re: HORNETS OR YELLOW JACKETS KILLED AND ROBBED MY BEES
I would never dispute the master BUT, I had a trap out going in Kernersville last week and had to pull out early because of japanesse hornets. These are very large yellow hornets that were hovering near the opening of the trap box and also around the cone eating honey bees until they had there fill....

Re: Round Ross Comb Honey
I have one ross round super and I have been asking around myself on the going price. I have heard $12 but that seems a little expensive. I do know that it cost us $2.50 per container. I have sold mine for $6 and feel like it is a deal. The containers are so expensive I might start cutting the rounds...

Re: 2012 Harvest
I have one hive that so far has produced 5 shallows and one medium of honey. They are a trapout from last year and a combination that I did not want to feed last winter. They are located on a knoll in the edge of a field that gets the first sunlight of the day and stays sunny until later in the afte...

Trap out needed
Braswell here in Stokesdale. We need a trap out done in Greensboro. This hive is several years established. It is located on Alliance Drive off wendover ave. west. Heres the trap. This hive is approx. 10 feet above a loading dock door. The dock is 48 inches and the door is 10 foot you get the idea. ...

Re: Hot bees.
Its about time someone else got a hot box. Wally and Jacobs are speaking of two different hives. I was the lucky beginner that got 2 hot boxes in a row. Jacobs saw the first and those bees had not been worked in a couple years and a mess inside. They did not make it because of mite infestation. The ...

Re: Spring buildup
Forgive me for somewhat changing the subject. I looked in all the Stokesdale hives yesterday and spring has sprung. I had one hive dead. The hive bettles (not many) where also dead. The bees where clustered in the middle with plenty of honey on top and sides. I want to post pictures for all to see b...

Re: Fallen tree w/ bees
Just in case someone is keeping score. We never did find a queen and looked a couple different times. The population decreased each time we went to check on them. I have never seen so many hive beetles. Hundreds maybe thousand. The bees are now out numbered 2 to one and down to a few hundred bees or...

Re: Fallen tree w/ bees
We split the tree open and found less than 2 pounds of honey stores and the only brood was slick and nasty with beetles, moths and maggots. We got them in a box but this is a mess. There were almost as many hive beetles as bees. Once the smoke clears I am going to get them out of this box into anoth...

Re: Fallen tree w/ bees
I cut the section out of the tree and 6 inches of the bottom of the hive was cut off. The 6 inch part cut off was infested with wax moth larva, similar to maggots, nasty comb. Question is, should we remove the bees this fall or leave them till spring. Within a few minutes yellow jackets were feeding ...

Fallen tree w/ bees
Needing some expert advise. I have an oak tree approximately 2 feet in diameter that has fallen with bees. The bees are entering in a limb knot. Question is how do I determine how much to cut above and below the knot? Thanks RB
