There are some good articles on Nosema Cerana in last quarters newsletter you can refer to. If you see a lot of spots it is more likely Nosema Apis which needs to be treated for. Spotting during the winter months is more common than this time of year and should be monitored for the health of your be...

I thought one of the other bee removal specialists would have answered by now.
In my opinion it would be difficult to re-establish the bees this late in the year. You could however boost the population of a weaker colony or use them to replace a poorer genetic stock.

extractor and misc.

Received a call.
A man has misc. equipment for sale. Odds and ends that he is willing to give away with the purchase of his extractor.
I do not have any more details.

nectar

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing significant amounts of nectar coming in to their hives?
Brood production has increased and the disposition of the bees is good.
I worked 50 colonies yesterday without a veil.

Open air hive?

At first, I thought this was an open air hive but now think it might be an absond. Either way it is up for grabs. Would be nice for someone needing another hive of bees. You would really have to work to get them to over winter, but they are dead if you do not try. I have a picture but do not know ho...

Totally agree!
Past experience indicates absconding hives. Most likely what is left from a bad situation. Hive got small, wax moth or small hive beetle moved in and bees finally left.

I am meeting with the board tonight and should firm up the practical test date.
I think you would see most everything in a hive this time of year and even possibly some queen cells as I saw some in one of my hives the other day.
There are always surprises inside each hive.

We certainly appreciate the heads up!
I hope it is a great fall flow as the spring was a bust.
Our bees need all the help they can get.

I would ony split the strongest of hives.
Your challenge will be to build up the bee population in the next 2 months. It is unlikely they will gain strength too much during the month of October.
Absolutely buy a queen and get them going ASAP.
I think it can be done.
Monitor closely.

For some reason I must have missed this post. Color is dependent upon the age of the wax and where it comes from. Darker wax is from older brood comb and lighter wax from cappings. This will not change and I have not had much luck bleaching darker wax. There must be a way but I am unamware. Normally...

It would seem that both hives must be doing pretty well. If the slower hive is taking " every day (1 gallon of syrup)." then I can't imagine what hive #2 is doing. Normally I would not be concrned about too much pollen. They will consume as they need it. My biggest fear would be if it were...

Bees do tend to over collect pollen at times. If this were the spring, the bees would consume the pollen in a short time. Since minimal brood rearing should be going on during the summer, this pollen will most likely not be consumed. If this brood box is left, there is a good chance that it will att...

I have seen golden rod in bloom but doubt that is what the flow is from.
Nectar in individual cells after placing supers back on to clean up usually is just the left over honey from extraction.

Interesting!

How much nectar? Are there just individual cells full or are you seeing complete patches of nectar?
