There is a theory that if you take off all the covers of the all the hives that they will all stop robbing.
I have tried and did not think to highly of the idea.
You may want to research a little more before trying.

Once the robbing starts you will not be able to stop it. They will kill the nuc unless you take drastic measures.
Drastic measures = move the nuc to another location where there are no hives around. I have done this many times with great sucess.

You observations are correct about Russians and Italians.
Fall flow yes but not worth trying to keep.
Most beekeepers hope for some fall honey to help boost stores for the winter.
Feed as needed, when needed as much as needed. :)

Some people would say that feeding the bees make them lazy. Come on... we are talking about honey bees. I am currently feeding but have no honey supers on. You never feed with the supers on. The honey flow is over and you should probably have your supers off or should be taking them off in the near ...

In reply to Ski...

Well I guess if you city folks can afford them new fangled gadgets like "robber screens" then maybe you can help prevent these problems. Simply reducing the size of the entrance will not stop the robbing.

Once the robbing starts you will notice thousands of bees pouring off of the hive. You may be able to deer for a day, but they will normally start again the next day.
The robbing continues until there is no honey left in the hive.

truthfully, I believe it is possible any time of the year. But it rarely happens except in the case of a dearth. Robbing during a honey flow does not make sense because the bees can obtain nectar easily anywhere. If you had several hives and were only feeding 1 with the wrong type of feeder you coul...

Yes... It Doesn't sound good for Doug. I would not be removing any honey unless you just had a hankering for a taste.
Reports indicate that the flow is coming in at less than half of what it should be.
Mine was poor to say the least. I still have to check my away yards in the mountains.

Carniolan queens

I am planning on splitting many of my hives in the near future.
I am going to be purchasing queens and would be happy to add some to my order if you are interested.
They may be Carniolans but I have not decided for sure just yet.
I will let you know soon.

I believe that the bees simply cap when ready. Not when you are ready of course but when they are!
They always surprise me and do stuff I think that they shouldnt.
I would give until the end of June without concern.

I personally have a variety of bees around the house.
I have had many Carniolans in the past and think that they are a great bee. Where did you get yours from?
I do not see a problem with feeding and no additional protection, but only if you have the right type of feeder.

Congrats on not having any swarms. Sorry about the lack of honey! I am unsure what you mean about partially filled supers? Only a few frames? Will the bees not cap this and you can extract later? As for the cut comb super...I would be a little concerned about leaving it. You always want cut comb to ...

I would agree that this is not a good year for local honey.
The main flow is over and the minor flow that is currently on will most likely be consumed as the bees continue to grow into the summer.

This weather has put the bees in an unusual manner lately. I normally can work the bees without regard but have noticed more agreesion than usual.
It would certainly pay to verify that the hive is queenright. I wouldnt do a lengthy exam but only enough to see eggs or the queen.

The first thing I would do is to get a better feeder. If you have to go into your bees to feed them, you are working too hard. Hive of Africanized bees found in Cedar City By Mike Stark Associated Press Writer Updated: 05/26/2009 01:19:47 PM MDT A hive of Africanized honey bees has been found in the eaves of a Cedar City home and Utah agriculture officials said Tuesday they want to know if there are more in the area. The hi...
