We rarely have the same speaker more than once a year and if we do they are multi-topical.
Since Frank only speaks about bee nutrition (that I am aware of), I have no plans to re-schedule any time soon.

Carniolans are a good choice.
You are correct that no one sells carny nucs around here or will likely ship.
The best way is to simply purchase an Italian nuc and then re-queen with an Carniolan Queen. 6 weeks later most of the bees will be Carnies.

best of luck,

Get all the ideas together including visuals. We can present at next meeting and vote in January.

I have had a few simple banners made in the past.
What I find interesting is the cost.
My banners (approx. 18" x 10', 1 color vinyl, 1 color lettering) cost around $100.
My biggest concern would be the quality.
But for $15 what the hey!

More than anything it is dependent upon the bees. Italians do not reserve their stores in the summer/fall thus eating through much of what you left them with after the harvest. I leave a super or more but they eat it up sometimes by the end of the summer. Russians do seem to be more conservative abo...

An empty hive, smoker and veil/bee-suit was all that was requested. If someone also wanted to spend a few minutes answering questions, that would also be appreciated but not necessary.

Children's Museum

We have a request from the Children's museum in Greensboro for some demo equipment and if possible a speaker. The event is this coming Saturday October 18 from 5:00pm until 8:00 pm. I am sorry for the late notice. I received word last week and thought I had someone to help out but things fell throug...

fumigation

Does anyone have any equipment that they need fumigated?
I know of someone that needs some equipment done, but does not have enough for a full run.
This would include any woodenware that you may have picked up second hand and want to ensure is disease free.

let me know.

Brushy Anyone?

Does anyone need anything from Brushy?
I need a couple of things but not enough to justify the trip.
I will spend my time to go if someone will help with gas.

Let me know in the next couple of days.

Queen availability

Just wanted everyone to know that queens are getting scarce this time of year. If you need a queen you had better plan on finding one soon as several suppliers are already out for the year.

My recomendations...
Apiguard
Api-Life Var
Mite Away 2

All these are considered organic treatments. All fairly effective.
Thymol based products should be used now.
Formic Acid may have to wait a bit.

These applications are less likely to cause any mite resistance.

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Feeding will definately help boost the population this time of year which will help the bees to overwinter. As for treatment... Yes you can cut your dosage. If I were to use Apistan, I would only use 1 strip. If Api-lif Var, half the wafers etc... good luck. ...
