Fall Queens

Hi everyone!
Well most people including myself are getting their hives ready for winter.
If you havent already done your fall requeening, you had better snap to it.
Queens are scarce already and you may have difficulty in finding any.

regards,

Agreed and the longer the better.
My only concern is that they are now colonized.
Were they colonized back then?

trip to get supplies

I am continually getting supplies from either Chuck Norton or Jack Tapp (both Brushy distributors). If anyone is in need of something, I will most likely be making a trip in the next week for something.
Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Up until this point I have been very skeptical of Russians. I am now at a point (approx 30 hives) that I can afford to do some testing and comparisons. My goal is to not use FGMO, which has been my stand alone treatment for the last 4 years. My understanding is that many have used Russians for appro...

requeening with Russians

Just introduce 6 Russians into existing colonies. I removed the attendants as usual and left them caged. After 7 days, I went in and did a direct release. I did not experience any agressiveness by the workers and all queens simply walked out and down in. I am quite satisfied and look foraward to see...

Mountain honey

Jus took off my honey from over in the mountains. Only got about 20 lbs per hive. The weather really hurt the honey flow. A lot of the potential honey was eaten by the bees for brood production. Lost 2 hives coming back home. They had a total melt down which I have never had before. Guess they...

Agreed! These things are truly fierce looking and very discouraging to see around your hive. They fly in and grab a bee and leave. Not sure if they are truly the same type as shown on TV. The ones on TV indicate that a hive can be destroyed in a matter of hours by 20 or so hornets. Always anot...

Well I managed to get my honey off from my hives in Virginia. From what I have been told, I have a combination of Black locust, black gum and blackberry. This honey has quite a floral kick and is a light yellow in color. I dont know how much it actually tastes like locust but contact me if intereste...

Hi! I think for curiosity and behavior study that keeping bees in a log is most interesting. Of course the government likes to take all the fun out of things and actually keeping bees in anything without moveable frames is strictly prohibited. The exact reasons that you stated are the reasons why yo...

Hi Guest! Please go ahead and register so that we can know a little more about you. I would suggest coming to the Guilford County beekeepers monthly meetings and you will find many from your part of town. Most beekeepers are quite happy to assist and I am sure we can find you a mentor/teacher. We ha...

Hi Bruce:
Somehow it just doesnt seem right. I guess in the long haul you would know that your meade wasnt really meade and you would always be wondering about the quality!
Feed it back to the bees, but be careful about robbing this time of year.

My understanding is that Locust is very clear in nature. Don't know if I could tell the difference between clover and Locust or not. Very light and very good in taste. I had a super last year that I believed to be locust but am unsure of anything except that it sold quickly. While I believe that all...

Hey Wally!

Guess you were right. Got a call just the other day about a swarm. Does one the size of a large grapefruit count?
