Re: February honey
My honey was almost clear with a tint of yellow. Similar to your earlier post. I was expecting it to taste like maple syrup. I had heard about maple honey from an older beekeeper many years ago. No one other than he had ever got any. Blueberry honey doesn’t taste like blueberries so I shouldn’t have...

February honey
Went in to a hive today to find them storing honey. The color is very light with just a hint of yellow. The taste is unique and one that I have never had. I have also never seen the bees make honey this early and it be ripe in the cells. Any thoughts as to what it might be?

Re: Freshly extracted raw honey needed

Sideline uncapper
I am selling my sideline uncapper. Perhaps I am just a little nostalgic and like uncapping with a knife like my grandfather did. This sells from Brushy Mountain for $1450 plus tax for a total of $1550. I am selling it for $1200. Pick up only. It has been used for less than one season and is in excel...

Sourwood flow
Was wondering if anyone has been to the mountains lately?
I have bees up there and was wondering if perhaps the bloom on sourwood was gong a little longer than usual? Since our spring flow went late I thought sourwood might be affected as well.
Any observations would be helpful.

Awesome!
A great price for a great product. I remember not that long ago when a pint was going for $5.

I am forwarding the info that I received yesterday. We have unexpectedly ended up with extra packages of bees. I really hate to see them die, if anyone would like to purchase a few please let us know. They will need to be picked up today or Sunday April 27th. Darren & Shannon Orr Orr Bee Supply ...

Re: Bee colonies collapsing as workers abandon hives - WRAL
I appreciate the feedback. The article that was linked to seems to be discussing prior hive losses and does not directly discuss this year's losses. While I have no basis for a scientific conclusion, I would like to point out the following areas of concern. Lack of genetic diversity - most commercia...

Re: Bee colonies collapsing as workers abandon hives - WRAL
I certainly understand the concern. As for the cause, all we have is speculation at this point. Last spring there was a resurgence of the honeybee and swarming. Now we have losses that can not be explained. I do believe it is real. I have spoken with other beekeepers that are sound in practice and h...

Re: hive robbing?
If robbing has started there is very little you can do to stop it. Yes, you can do all the things suggested, but this hive has been identified by all the others around it as weak and a potential target for easy pickings! If possible you can move this hive to another yard which will often help. If th...
