Purple flowers
I really do not know. I have not seen them on the flowers, but they are all in the bradford pear trees. I have also heard that they like chic weed, and I have not seen them on that either, so I really do not know.

Dead Bee's, Larvae, and Pupa being removed.
Ok, I am thinking that this is normal. I just walked out and looked at the hive, and the activity is starting to pick up with the clearing sky and warming temps. However, I did notice a good bit, perhaps two dozen, larvae and pupa that were on the ground in front of each hive. Also I noticed several...

Newbee Jitters
I know all about the newbee jitters, I am fighting the urge to go and look in on my bees every day. I can't hardly stand it. I was hoping today would be nice and sunny, so I could at least watch them fly, and work on the two bradford pear trees that are all full of bloom. Maybe by this afternoon. I ...

My split
Wally, I did the math on the split that you helped me with. Here is what I came up with. We split on Tuesday March 13. Queen cells should be capped between March 21-23. Queen should hatch between March 29-31. The Last brood in the split should hatch on April 3. The new Queen should begin to lay eggs...

Frustrating
I just went out to see a few bees flying. It is 48 deg. and some were even bringing in pollen from somewhere??? Any ideas where? I did notice one bee on the porch that had a mite on her abdomine.  I hope that does not spell doom for the hive. A rough mite count in Sept-October only yeilde...

Sounds good
Sounds good. The colony that Wally assisted me in taking out of the house is doing very well. If you recall we took them out on the 22nd of Aug. and I was a bit hesitant in doing so that late in the year. However, they are full up in two deeps now, and weigh about 90 lbs. So I think they are good fo...

What about the old equipment.
When you say shake, do you mean that you simply shook all frames onto new equipment? If so, what did you do with the old stuff, did you send it to the state for fumigation? Are there any concerns about the AFB spores getting transfered on the bees themselves?

Epi-Pen
At the last meeting, it was mentioned about getting an Epi-Pen certificaiton. Will doctors accept this certification and give a prescription for an Epi-Pen, even if you are not allergic to bee stings? I am currently a NC State Certified EMT, with defibrilation and epi qualifications.

Pollen Identificaiton
What kind of pollen are you seeing. I am seeing a brownish yellow (what I believe to be from the golden rod :?: ) and some almost white pollen :?: and a really orange pollen :!: :?: :?: :!: , like the orange syrup drink for kids at McDonald's. I have no idea what the white and orange are. Any ideas?

AFB
So what is the treatment for AFB. I was under the impression that this was a given dead hive that needed to be destroyed.

"Really Mean Bees" Does this indicate that you wore a bee suit, or were they just sort of mean? Hate I could not go with you yesterday. How much honey did they have in stores with the brood? By the way, when I went out to fill the feeder jar this am, one of the bees stung me on top of the ...

Go to www.theocba.org and you will find a photo page. Under the photo page you will see an album from Randal Austin. He has a picture of one on a nuc. It seems pretty simple. In addition, you may try beesource.com and see what they have.

Wally knows bee's. I have been questioning him all season, and have even been down to play with bees with him some. He is really full of knowledge. I am planning to get bees next spring, and I am gaining as much knowledge from him now, so I hopefully can make a fair go of it next spring. Did you sta...
