Thanks for everyone's input to my crisis. As a good neighbor I was thinking of giving up my hives. After researching plus the good advice I decided to move the hives away from the neighbors property, told them so, and explained I am breaking no laws as politely as possible. I doubt we will be on spe...

Thanks John for the information. I did not start this and have always tried to be a good neighbor. Being a good neighbor I have started moving the hives away from that side and will downsize from 5 to 2 hives. The neighbor really got to me and it could have been handled much better but because of he...

Thanks but I don't think we will be on speaking terms anymore. I was really disgusted by the "neighbors with bees are your worst nightmare comment". Yet her dogs continually get out of the fence and roam the neighborhood.

It could have been handled a bit better.

I quickly talked with my wife , another neighbor, and built a new area 75 foot away. Moved three of my five hives and will move the others after I get a suit. They were not so happy and I now have five or six stings so I think I will invest in a suit. I cannot believe 3 swarms were from two hives. F...

What to do? crisis

Hello, I have moved from one hive to four established hives. Three of these are swarms which the neighbors say are mine. I have plenty of room in the hives and maybe this is so. I am trying everything from the meetings and what I have read to keep from swarming. My problem is now the neigbors are up...

speaking of swarms. Do bee hives attract swarms ? I had two brood chambers in reserve and unused, one a spare, one for 3lbs from Brushy Mountain later this month. Yesterday I came home and the neighbor had probably 5 lbs of bees which I grabbed and almost filled a brood chamber. Today, a blue bird b...

They seem fine this evening. There is no signs of what I saw yesterday. Now Wally, you experienced guys may not wear protective gear but I know first hand what happens when a bee stings your forehead. My children and wife laughed at me for days. When a hive is split like this do the existing b...

I looked for the queen but did not see her. One reason is once I started to get to the brood chamber the hive "boiled" over with bees....even with lots of smoke they were tremendous. it was all I could do to split the hive (I am buying a suit!). Between the boilover , a million of mad bees...

Thanks Wally, I guess I did the right thing. I took 4 frames from the brood into a new box, left six with 4 new frames in the one from last year. I did have a new honey super as well on the existing one. Being new to this...I never have seen so many bees in one existing brood chamber and one existin...

Spring build up questions. One of my hives today had 2-3 lbs of bees on the outside, buzzing their wings, drones are out. After opening the hive, it was full of bees. I figured they were thinking of splitting the hie. I did not see any swarm cells but it is too early for the hive to hot. Is this the...

My second hive a baeekeeper helped me with in March of last year. He took three frames from three hives and I gave him three empty frames.

They are really busy (and more aggressive) than the bees I got from Brushy Mountain.

Trying to figure the best time and way to split....

O.K. no honey supers yet. If I have a really strong hive and split the hive is there a minumum distance I need to worry about? Otherwise, would they go back to the main hive with the queen??? Would three full frames in a new brood chamber be enought for a split or not? Why three, well if the can com...

I have to pay for my hobbies as well.

My next task is to throw out all red writing devices. Too bad we cannot take a agricultural tax writeoff for pollenation services.

Thanks for the reply. I will be going deeper as I will order some more honey supers.

Thanks, I think I will also wait a bit. Boy, one hive is really busy, the other so-so. Better safe than sorry so thanks for the response.

put honey supers on now? or wait?

My bees are very busy, I have feed all winter so they have good stores.

Are you guys putting honey supers on now and stop feeding or wait a couple more weeks?

Thanks for the information. Several LOCAL farmers have asked about placing bees there so this is actually close. I don't want to go more that a 10 mile radius. Wally, is that per season $60 or a month or 3 months or what. I don't want to be a commerical service ut it would be nice to recoup the cost...

DO any of you guys put hives on farms? If so, how much do you charge per hive? Per season? Or for a period?

I was asked to place one on a farm for obvious reasons but don't have clue for this....
