Re: Any preferences for top feeders? What style do you like

These are the feeders I like. They have the bee access at one end and I use a screen over the feeder for a tight fit to the feeder and it provides ventilation. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w45/Beegood_01/feeders002.jpg I have a couple of feeders that have the bee access in the middle and don't...

Re: FAIR 2013

Spent 4.5 hours talking to people about bees and beekeeping at the bee booth at the NC state fair while my better half worked selling honey for the State Beekeepers Association. Didn't get a good pic but got 4th place in the honey competition.

Central Carolina Fair:
Dropped my one jar of honey off today at the Coliseum pavilion building in Greensboro.
They did provide two tickets to get back into the fair anytime.

Anybody else submitting any?

Fig Honey?

Fig honey? No, I don't think so, at least not from consuming the juice from the fruit. A few years ago in a beekeepers meeting I recall someone warning us about bees eating rotten fruit on compost piles as it will give them dysentery. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w45/Beegood_01/Figs%20and%20be...

Re: ?? Feeding time ??

I picked up 5 swarms this year and I am feeding 3. The other 2 I gave away and they are also being fed. I checked one of the swarms since I have ben feeding and they had a few frames of syrup. All of the other hives seem to have plenty of stores for now. I will be surprised if all 3 of the swarms ma...

Franklin County, NC -- A dog in Franklin County died after he was stung by hundreds of bees. Ashley Seagroves told WRAL that her 4-year-old dog, Mika, was chained near his dog house when she found him covered by hundreds of bees when she came home Monday. "I wish I would have come home and he w...

Re: honey pricing

I was in Washington DC for the 4th of July and visited a small Famers market on July 5th. They were charging $7.25 per pound.
A lady on Hwy 70 in Sedalia, NC is charging $8.50 per pound and she said that its selling very well.

Re: top hive feeder drowning

I have fixed a few feeders that had open spaces by removing the top screen enough to put some silicone in the open spaces. You should not have to repair new equipment but sometimes its easier then the hassle of returning it. I like using the vented screens on top of the feeders, they usually fit fla...

Re: 2 frame Extractor on E-bay

New ones go for $311 on the Dadant site so I would not bid much more for it either. I have not seen many on E-bay in the last couple of years, just one every now and then.

Re: Candles

Thank You. This is my first year of playing around with wax so I was pleased but the real candle makers may see issues. They weren't hard to sell. One lady purchased two dozen and another lady wants a dozen candles and two dozen of the coins as a handout for her sons oral book report on bees. Who wo...

Register Now for Hands-on Queen Rearing Workshop

Jennifer Keller takes care of the bees at NCSU for the research studies being done there. She makes sure there are enough bees to cover all the studies being conducted. She is very good at what she does and is a very down to earth beekeeper. .............................................................

Candles

I have been saving my bees wax for several years now changing out brood combs and saving cappings. I melted the wax in my solar wax melter and then remelted and filtered it and played around with a couple of molds just for fun. I have made about 3 dozen of each. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w4...

Where are you located?
I have a suit and a couple of veils that I use for visitors but it may not be pratical to pick them up depending on where you are located.
