Re: treat new packages?
Wally, if not spraying, do you still install by shaking or by removing frames and setting package in? Tips would be appreciated.

Re: treat new packages?
Thanks for your thoughts. New question: What temperature range do you think it is appropriate to spray a new package? I am scheduled to install 2 packages this Friday (3-29) and was planning on spraying.

treat new packages?
A couple of books I have read suggest the possible treating of new packages with Fumigilin in the hive top feeder. Also, when would you want to start sugar dusting after installing a new package? How do bees react to sugar dusting compared to sugar/water spraying? Calming or excited reaction? Your t...

Re: drone frame in new package
Thanks for the replies, guess i'll wait on the drone frame. In regards to posting pics: Copy/insert function, IMG codes, Firefox? I guess you will have to dumb it down for this dinosaur. Bees to arrive this Friday and I thought I would try to post pics of my hive location, custom stand, etc. Thanks ...

drone frame in new package/posting pictures in forum
I have 3 lb. packages (2) due 3/29 from Triad. I am using all 8 frame mediums. Does anyone have any thoughts on using the "drone comb" frame in a new package? Any or all responses would be appreciated.
Also, can someone explain how one would post a picture in the forum?
Thanks.

Re: Insulating hives in cold
pholcomb - let me know how the insulation idea works out for you. I think in part, that is what seems so interesting about beekeeping to me, it is not all set in stone and innovation is up to the individual beekeeps.

Re: Wayne's bees

Sorry. I just realized this post should have been in the "wanted" category and I do not know how to change it. I'm a technology dinosaur.

Wayne's bees
I decided to use 3 lb. packages of "Wayne's bees" for my new hives. Contacted Larry Tate and he replied I was already too late to order for this year. Does anyone know how/where I can obtain some? Thanks.

Insulating hives in cold
I just registered today and have been looking through the site trying to find some answers to various questions and i have seen some pics of hives with what looks to be a silver colored insulation wrapped around the hive. I assume this is done to try and help the hive keep warm. If so, how is it ins...
