Swarm-4/8/25

Post by Jacobs »

I looked out at the fig bushes in the back of my yard yesterday around 10:30am and saw about a 2lb cluster of bees. I think they must have come out on Tuesday after I left for the GCBA meeting. I don't believe they would have come out yesterday morning, with temperatures what they were--even if we were celebrating avoiding a hard freeze. I was unable to locate the queen, so I put a frame of eggs and larvae from another nuc with the swarm to try and anchor them in. I suspect the swarm issued from a nuc I overwintered. It has swarmed once, and days later I could still hear queens piping and responding. I witnessed an attempted swarm and return when the queen apparently did not leave the nuc. That happened right before a heavy shower and was followed by our rainy day. Perhaps I should have gone in the nuc on Tuesday. . . . perhaps.
