sanitizing/sterilization of used hive woodenware

Post by John Sabat »

I have the opportunity to obtain several complete hives that are no longer in use. The reason for the vacancy is VM infestation. I have access to a farmer who uses methyl bromide to treat agricultural areas. If the hives in question were treated under the plastic with the methyl bromide would that kill any possible lingering infestation. Hives have not been in use for several years. Is this a question better directed to NC State? If so, what are his contact numbers?
Thanks

All aspects of VM died after a couple of days. The only thing that lingers is American foulbrood. Below is a link to the NC bee inspectors. They can answer any of your treatment questions.
