Feeding the bees

I have about 3 gallons of honey extracted from when I was feeding packages sugar water last year. Was wondering if I could use this to feed this years packages? Since it is 'honey' not nectar, can I use it and how much should I dilute it for top feeders?

Bruce, I have never used top feeders, put the entrance feeders work well without dilution. Remember that if you dilute honey, fermentation sets in immediately. If they don't clean it up in two or three days, it will sour.

If you ask on the forum here, someone may want to buy it to make mead.

well, currently they are empting a 2 gal top feeder in about 4 days, so I guess I could just pour it in.

Is making meade from sugar honey any more kosher than just using it as honey?

I would think either one would be kosher for one's own use, as long as it wasn't sold as being something it isn't.

Somehow it just doesnt seem right. I guess in the long haul you would know that your meade wasnt really meade and you would always be wondering about the quality!
Feed it back to the bees, but be careful about robbing this time of year.

Seriously, referring to the kosher question, I think you can sell anything with a truthful description. It is only wrong when you call horse manure "slightly used grade A hay"
