I recently watched a progran on National Geographic tha showed a colony of honey bees get distroyed by a swarm of Japanese Hornets. Has this ever happened to anyone in this area?

They pick up one here and there, but there is so much easier prey for them in this area that thet do not get enough to hurt the hive,

Agreed!
These things are truly fierce looking and very discouraging to see around your hive. They fly in and grab a bee and leave. Not sure if they are truly the same type as shown on TV. The ones on TV indicate that a hive can be destroyed in a matter of hours by 20 or so hornets.

Always another pest to worry about.
