hive body switch

Post by drewgrim »

in my one hive the bees have moved up to the second hive body, and the bottom one is pretty much empty. when is the best time to move to bottom one up and put the empty one on the top? or should i do it at all?

If you were to switch the bottom one to the top, then you would have an empty box on top of a full one. this would be of no use to the bees this time of year. Hive reversal is commonly practiced by many, but do the bees really care?
I mean, when was the last time you saw this practice happen in a tree? The bees seem to manage on their own. Yes the queen will go down but probably not until it gets warmer. The best thing you can do right now is to feed if necessary.

LOL thats funny, I just reversed a few of my hive boxes today. Wish I had read your post first. Oh well I needed to clean the bottom boards off anyway.
