Swarm

Post by ski »

My wife spotted this swarm in our peach tree just before dark. Almost sure it came from the hive I have had a pollen trap on for a couple of weeks. I didn't like the trap because they were always clustered on the outside of the trap so I removed it. Perhaps it had nothing to do with the trap and everything to do with swarm preparation. Its one of the largest swarms I have seen from my hives.

They were about 5 foot off the ground not a problem shaking them into a hive, got them in 2 mediums, I think they are good for the night. But, may have to add another medium or two or they may swarm again lol.

I added another medium to the hive this morning.
To correct my previous post: I would not be concerned about them swarming but they could very well abscond if they don't have enough room.

I need to check on my two that resulted from the swarm, returnin swarm, then loaded with queen cells, to then queenless hives.

Not sure what they were doing, but I hope they got it right.

As of right now, they both seem queenless.
