how to make a split

Post by drewgrim »

i have a pretty strong hive that is laying in the super that i had from last year. i am thinking about taking that super off and starting a hive with it. i have drones in my hives now so i was going to let the new hive make its own queen. any thoughts or suggestions?

how many frames of brood would i need?
how could i keep the nurse bees in the super but keep the queen in the original hive?
would i be better off just taking some brood from the hive bodies and starting a proper hive?

You would be better off taking the split from the hive bodies.
