Trapped Drowned Bees

Post by royl »

Greenhorn here.
I use the top hive feeder shown. I have noticed that if a bee drowns in the screened area, there is no way I can easily get it out. There are 6 or so trapped at any given time. Since this is a new hive, I cannot tell if these bees are hours, days, or weeks old. I am not sure if I should try to remove them or if the bees will volunteer to do so.

You can probably wait until the feeder is empty and remove them if you want to. A lot of the time bees will remove dead bees, but they generally do not remove the wet dead bees from a feeder. I don't think those few dead bees will be much of a problem.
