above the queen excluder
I'm trying out a queen excluder in 2 of my hives that I will get honey from this year. I pulled 8 frames of honey to put in the top above the excluder and had just a little bit of capped brood on one of the frames. I thought it would hatch out and be gone before I extract any honey in about a month. But then thought later that having any brood above excluder might mean there are also some eggs that they could make a queen from. My question is do I only put frames with no brood above the excluder?
Re: above the queen excluder
I put mine on then an empty 9 frame shallow super once this was filled with honey with mostly capped, I then added a 9 frame deep since I had frames with drawn comb. From what I read, the queen excluded keeps the queen out of your honey supers so no eggs, brood larva just honey. I'm hoping I'm correct.

Becky, just check the frames after 5 to 7 days. If you find cells, remove them. All will be well.
