Help With Hive Inspection In High Point

Help...I need help inspecting a hive Friday or Saturday. If you can help me out please send a pm. This hive has one deep hive body and 4 medium supers.

Thank you Rob for the help inspecting my hive today. I could not have completed the task without your help. I learned alot this morning. Now I feel better about this hive going into the winter.

I enjoyed the visit and it was good to see such a healthy hive. As with a number of my hives, the queen is still producing a significant amount of brood and the hive will need more food stores to get it through winter.

I have heard from a few other people that they are seeing similar situations, so we all need to pay attention to the current food stores in hives and take any needed steps to make sure the bees have plenty of food for winter.

Sad to report, the hive Rob helped me check is gone. I found the dead out 12/20/2014. Had eight frames full of capped honey, plenty of stored pollen, but only a small about (hand full) of bees in the hive. Did find the queen, but no capped brood or larva at all. The deep hive body was completely empty. I did not treat this hive for varroa mites. The other four hives (splits from this hive) seem to be doing fine, when checked on the 20th.

So sorry you lost your hive, Donwal. I'm curious to know what you do with the queen in a situation such as this. At this point, can she be saved and capable of restoring her hive?

She did not make it either.

I was able to do a quick check on the four splits on New Years Day. They were very active and all have good sized clusters. I had made and gave all of them protine candy blocks the first week of November, they have eaten most of the blocks. Fringers crossed these will make it through.
