Swarm off Alamance Rd.

Post by whg3 »

This morning I was on my way to help a friend make as split when he called and said we were to late they are swarming! (This is his second year as a beekeeper) We had been trying all last week to do it but we all know what the weather was like. He watched them land up about twenty-five feet in a cedar tree. I got there about ten min. later and we went to work cutting limbs so we could get a ladder up to the tree. It was a very large swarm just a little smaller than a soccer ball. We were able to cut the limbs they were on and bring them down the ladder and shake them in a hive. I hope I did it right? This was the first swarm that I have caught. He went from two hives to three and I went and bought a nuc. :P
