When to do sugar shake test?

I installed 2 packages in 2 hives this April. I keep them in the Colfax area. I have two questions:
1-when do I do the sugar shake test for mites?
2-do I need to test both hives or determine my treatment with testing only one hive?
I am new to all this so any information is welcome.

The first time around, I would call your state inspector. He/she will come out, do the shake, examine your hives, advise but not demand, and it is all free. Then you will know how and when to do them in the future.

I just found the list on the State Assoc site. Thanks for the help. I will contact the inspector I find there
