Beeswax foundation is slightly curved

Post by dana »

I installed my first package of bees this afternoon - with help from my mentor. My frames have beeswax foundation, and each sheet of foundation is slightly curved within its frame. We tried to straighten the foundation but to no avail. We installed them so that each curve is oriented in the same direction. Has anyone else encountered this situation? Is this likely to cause a problem?

I run two horizontal wires in my frames to prevent that. If it isn't much, they should be all right. If it's a good bit of warp, I would go in tomorrow and wire them. If your mentor doesn't have wire, I do.
You can call me at 336-302-2708 if you want to talk about it. I will be up til 11:30 tonight, and will turn my phone back on about 8:30 tomorrow morning.

Wally,

Thanks for the information about the curved foundation. I visited the hive on Sunday, but with the poor weather, I only fed and left. I am returning on Tuesday, and with better weather, plan to check for the queen's release and examine the frames/foundation to see what is happening. I will post you about what I find.
