New Package Plan

Post by Doug Shaw »

I currently have 3 hives and am starting a 4th this Saturday with a package of bees. Would it be advisable to take 2 of the outer frames from the other hives, after shaking off the bees, and put them in the new hive? Reason for this is that I do not have more drawn frames available just fresh foundation frames. The older hives would get new foundation frames in the #1 and 10 positions. My current hives all are showing good queen laying patterns and are bringing it lots of nectar and pollen. Good idea or not?

It would help the package. Take the frames you want, but replace the foundation in slots 2 and 9. They don't like to draw 1 and 10.
