I am new beekeeper I have three hives. One hive is from a swarm in May of this year, we robbed the bees second week in July only a couple of frames were capped in two hives did not rob the new swarm hive.
The hives have brood & hive body with one super on them with solid
bottom boards.
The other two hives have had increasing bees (alot of bees) hanging out on the front of the hives & on the hive stand. One hive has screened cover & I removed the inner cover. They are still hanging out. Do not want a swarm this late in the season should I consider adding another super?

If they have empty space, no. If they have all frames full, yes. Add a super.

Swarm season is finished. They are just hanging out to stay cool.

New or old hive, the answer is the same. Keep empty space in there for them, but don't worry about bearding. It's a GOOD sign.
