diatomaceous earth

Anyone have any experience with using diatomaceous earth around honey bees? I know you shouldn't put it on them or in hive but was wondering about using it around the house/garden near hives. Thanks.

A good bed on ground is supposed to help against Small Hive beetle larvae .... having said that i bought a large bag but did not use it last year.

started using wood ashes from fire which is also supposed to work.

of course after rain you have to replace it each time ...
