Washboarding

Post by northmtnfarm »

Hey there - 1st year beek and have a NUC that is doing great but discovered a behavior I traced down to "washboarding" after some research. Any info on this? Doesn't seem to be too much of a problem just lots of bees that jam up the entrance making it a little harder for workers to come and go.

Welcome to the board. Please post your location in your profile since all beekeeping is local and some answers may vary with location. Washboarding is not one that varies with location. I have not seen any answer as to why bees do it. Maybe its the bee equivalent of humans line dancing.

It is just something bees do to baffle beekeepers and researchers alike. Then they set back and laugh at us dumb humans.
