Swarm in Jamestown 3/24/14

Post by BeeJim »

Got a call from friend in Jamestown that a swarm was available in his backyard. This was at 10;30AM today. I had lost one hive this winter and looking for replacement. This is my first swarm collection and it went very well. The swarm was about 10' off the ground and I was able to support hive body on top of 8' ladder and shake into box. I set the box near a group of bees which missed the box and after about 20 min they seem to have entered the hive. I would estimate about two packages of bees in size. They are now housed in two mediums with top feeder in Oak Ridge and seem content. I will post again as I know more. :P

Looks like you have the first legitimate swarm of the season. Way to go Jim.
