What's this red pollen in November?

Post by WannaBee1 »

Does anyone know what plant or tree would produce ruby red pollen this late in the season? I saw it in pollen baskets of several bees coming back to the hive today. Many others were bringing in yellow pollen but that beautiful red color was simply impossible to miss.

I don't know, but my yard is covered with a million little red flowers no bigger than a pin head. Don't know what it is, nor if the bees work it.

Judging by the small amount of pollen present on the few bees I saw carrying it, I'll bet that the tiny red flowers in your yard are the source. Thanks, Wally, and please let me know if you happen to notice any bees working them in the next couple of days. I'd like to identify the plant. I wonder if anyone else has seen this red pollen.

I don't know that this article will have your answer, but it is an interesting guide to pollens by color.
