Confessions of a Yellowjacket Haver

Post by Jacobs »

I don't think I will be successful at over wintering my yellowjackets this year. About 3 weeks ago, I happened to see a queen emerge from the nest and fly off to attempt to find a winter location. She is much larger than the worker in the picture.

This is the time of year when varmints (yes, I looked up the spelling) dig up the nests, and this happened before I could take any protective action. I'm no longer seeing yellowjackets feeding beside my honey bees at my external feeder of honey water.

That's a shame. If I have any over winter, I'll give you a nest of them in the spring to get you going again.
