Hive Placement in Small Back Yard

I have a small yard that I will be adding two hives too this spring. I have been watching where the sun is especially in the morning time. The only choice for location I have to put the hives in good sun will also mean I will be mowing around the hive. Question is how tolerant are the guard bees going to be when I pass by with the riding mower and/or the weed wacker?

Will depend on the bees you have, the weather, and other things. They may be fine for many mowings, then tell you to go away the next time you mow. Most times, it's fine, but stay on guard and be prepared to suit up if they tell you to.

I have never had a problem with the 8 hives in my back yard while mowing right up to the bottom board. On the other hand there are many times that they have let me know that they do not like the weed eater, sometimes they attack my hands and sometimes just the spark plug wire on the weed eater. When I weed eat I wear a veil and gloves.

I agree....most of my mowing doesnt bother them as long as I dont "blow" anything towards the hive......the worse is when the exhaust blows towards them! They absolutely HATE the weedeater.
