Check out this Bearding

Post by royl »

This queen is amazing. Beautiful frames of brood. Strong laying pattern. LOTS of bees.

This is what they looked like the fourth of May. It hasn't been too warm. The temp here in Greensboro has been very mild (high 75-80 during the day and 50-60 at night).

I'm thinking about splitting but I don't want to interrupt honey production. No signs of swarming at the time of this post. Rob helped me pull about 3 gallons of honey last weekend. They have at least 4 gallons that we did not remove since they were finishing up on capping.

I'm thinking about changing out my inner cover to a screened inner cover to help with ventilation. it has a screened bottom board. Curious on your thoughts for splitting/loss of honey production and changing the inner cover.

IF you can find her and if they are not in the process of making swarm cells, you might pull her and make a nuc for now. This will provide brood interruption for mite control, leave a strong foraging workforce for honey production, and perhaps, satisfy the swarming urge. Just one of several options.
