Feeding Ratios

I'm a first year honeybee keeper. I'm using a top feeder. I purchased my first sugar syrup from Beez Needz, but I'd like to make my batches from now on. What is the correct ratio of sugar (pounds) to water (gallons). I'm sure I'll need to heat the water before mixing it with the sugar, but I'd like advice on what this procedure looks like. Thanks.

I use hot tap water. It is hot enough to mix for feeding in the spring. Use equal amounts of sugar and water. A pint is a pound, whether sugar or water.
Mix twice as much sugar as water for fall feeding to be stored for winter. For that, you will need to heat the water to near boiling.
