February Swarms?

It likely someone in our area will see a Feb swarm this year. I found a capped Q cell today and had a drone flying while I was in the hive. On the way to the hives I saw 3 or 4 bees smelling around my bait hive that I left out since last spring.

David and I just got back from checking hives in McLeansville. He has a Wayne's queen hive with a queen doing a nice job of laying and 1 queen cell in the swarm position with royal jelly and a larva in it. The hive did not seem crowded. David is going to need to keep an eye on it since the bees' intentions are not exactly clear.

I have an appointment to look at a hive in Pleasant Garden tomorrow. The owner says he thinks he has queen cells. Yes, things are starting to happen. Swarms are possible in Feb., and for sure the first half of march if this weather continues. Everyone should be checking their hives for cells as soon as they can.
