Robber attacks yesterday

Post by quentin »

Had 2 of 4 hive attacked by robbers yesterday. Both hives were strong and won their battles, fortunately. Maybe time to put on robber screens.

I have 1 good strength hive at the house that is under strong probing/robbing and has been for about the last 2 days. Monday afternoon, when I remove the Formic Pro treatment from it and other hives, I suspect this one will be one where the queen did not survive. My limited experience is that when a hive comes under attack/probing this time of year, and I didn't do anything to trigger activity (feed early in day/spill sugar water/have hives open too long until chaos starts) it is a hive with queen issues.

Planned to check for queens next week. I feed early often, probably spilled some sugar water when inverting the jar feeders. Thanks for the tips.
