Eating vs making honey

Post by rbunch »

When you look at a frame of uncapped honey is there a way to tell if this is honey recently uncapped and the bees are eating the honey vs they are still adding nectar? I was wondering if there is some sort of tell in the way it looks?

Short of repeated examinations to see what is going on or having a hive scale on the hive, I don't know of a way to tell. I can't detect relatively small weight changes by hefting the hive.
