Strange Blooming Season

Post by Jacobs »

The leatherleaf mahonia and flowering quince are very late this year. I expect to see them in December if the fall is warm, and more likely in January. They have been blooming for awhile, but have not finished. I'm seeing early cherry trees and now, redbuds. For the last few days, I have been smelling what I take to be holly nectar being stored in my hives at home. Sure enough, I looked in my front yard and one of the holly bushes that still has berries, has budded. Some of those buds are blooming. A couple of my blueberry plants also have blooms. Dandelions are decorating my yard and are being visited by bees. I can't recall seeing overlaps like this before.
